My practice is rooted in Hellenistic astrology, which centers around predicting the life events of a person, whereas modern astrology centers around understanding the psychology of a person. Having said that, I also deeply value psychological insights as someone who has, over a decade, repeatedly taken personality tests such as the MBTI, Jungian cognitive functions, and the Enneagram.
Prior to 2024, I didn't believe in many of the things that I'm now developing a sense of knowing for, and one of them was astrology. I was unknowingly a reductionist materialist, and ideologically subscribed to the belief that astrology is pseudoscience. After having gone through the stages of denial, and repeatedly experiencing moments where I'd say to myself "astrology is real!?", I now find myself unable to deny its reality. I do still have moments of doubt when my analytical mind creeps in.
As I've been integrating astrology into my worldview, it has deepened my sense of embeddedness, of feeling at home. I found it quite uncanny and somehow grounding to see life events correspond to what the astrology was showing — to witness: as above, so below. It has also helped me better understand myself and others, especially my partner. I genuinely feel less judgemental, more empathetic, and more myself since I've studied astrology. It's helping me get out of my own way.
Astrology, so far, has shown me that each of us has a thematic story. Personally, I believe the particular manifestation of our story is up to our freewill, or lack thereof, if we live unconsciously. By becoming conscious of the themes of our mythos, we can choose to embody and create the particular story of our lives that reflects the Good, the True, and the Beautiful. All this is much easier said than done, and it's a worthwhile journey and adventure.
